Please note that you MUST have already set up an Internet account with us BEFORE you try and set up a connection. Call us at 815-947-3762 to get signed up
It is assumed in this document that only people with a basic knowledge of Windows use this. If you don't know enough to be able to follow these instructions just call us and we can help you through it. This is a tutorial on the process used to set up or re-setup a dial-up connection to our Internet service. This tutorial uses the Internet Connection Wizard to create the dialup. This is available in all versions of Windows 95 and later. However, it is possible that you can remove or disable the Internet Connection Wizard in your computer. If you get an error message telling you that it is not installed or security blocks you from running it, then you will have to contact us to fix it. Also, this tutorial is streamlined for machines that have Internet Explorer 5 or greater installed. The basic setup is still the same for IE 4, but the menu options will not be the same and you may have to improvise.
Windows 95, 98, and 2000
Step 1: Open up the Control Panel. Do this by going to Start >> Settings >> Control Panel. Step 2: Open up the Internet Properties Dialog. This is possibly labeled different on some machine. Most machines will have 'Internet Settings' or 'Internet Options', though it could be labeled something else with 'Internet' in it. Step 3: Go over to the 'Connections' tab and hit the 'Setup' button. This will start the Internet Connection Wizard. Step 4: Under the 'General' tab you will see a box labeled 'Address' where you can set your home page. We recommend setting that to our homepage at 'http://www.jisp.net' so that you can keep aprised of everything happening with us and also keep track of your account and such. Then go over to the 'Connections' tab and hit the 'Setup' button. This will start the Internet Connection Wizard. Step 5: Choose 'I want to setup my Internet connection manually' and then hit 'Next'. Step 6: Choose 'I connect through a phone line and a modem' and then hit 'Next'. Step 7: Insert the telephone number '947-2937' and enter 815 for the area code. Then hit 'Next'. Step 8: Next enter your username and password that you gave us when you signed up with us. Then hit 'Next'. Step 9: The next screen will ask for Connection name. Type 'JISP Internet' in the space provided. Hit 'Next'. Step 10: Lastly it will ask you 'Do you want to set up an Internet mail account now?'. Select 'No' and hit 'Next' and then 'Finish'
Windows XP
Step 1: Open up the Control Panel. Go to Start >> Control Panel. Step 2: Open 'Network and Internet Connections' and then 'Internet Options'. Step 3: Under the 'General' tab you will see a box labeled 'Address' where you can set your home page. We recommend setting that to our homepage at 'http://www.jisp.net' so that you can keep aprised of everything happening with us and also keep track of your account and such. Then go over to the 'Connections' tab and hit the 'Setup' button. This will start the Internet Connection Wizard. Step 4: Go over to the 'Connections' tab and hit the 'Setup' button. This will start the Internet Connection Wizard. Step 5: Hit 'Next'. Select 'Connect to the Internet' and hit 'Next'. Step 6: Select 'Set up my connection manually' and hit 'Next'. Step 7: Select 'Connect using a dial-up modem' and hit 'Next'. Step 8: Type 'JISP Internet' in the ISP Name box and hit 'Next'. Step 9: Type '815-947-2937' in the Phone number box and hit 'Next'. Step 10: Next enter your username and password that you gave us when you signed up with us. All three of the checkboxes should be selected also. Then hit 'Next'. Step 11: Lastly you can add a shortcut to the dialup on the desktop if you wish by selecting the 'Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop', but it is not nessacery as all internet programs will start up the dialup whenever any connection to the web is needed. Then hit 'Finish'
Note: One last small note for XP users. Many XP users have had to retype their password before they could get in. This shouldn't happen every time you bring up the dialup, but it does happen so be aware of it. This seems to just be some kind of XP issue that Microsoft has yet to iron out.

It is assumed in this document that only people with a basic knowledge of Windows use this. If you don't know enough to be able to follow these instructions just call us and we can help you through it. This is a tutorial on the process used to set up or re-setup your email account on your computer. This tutorial is streamlined for Outlook Express 5 or better. The basic setup is still the same for Outlook Express 4, but the menu options will not be the same and you may have to improvise.
All Windows Versions
Step 1: Open up the Outlook Express. If this is your first time running it, the account setup wizard will automatically start. If this is the case with your machine, then you can skip to step 3. Step 2: Open up the accounts area by going to Tools >> Accounts >> Mail. There you will see a box with a list of all the mail accounts currently set up in your identity. If there are any old ones in there that you no longer use you can highlight them and hit 'Remove' to delete them. Then hit Add >> Mail to start the account setup wizard. Step 3: In the first box there you will put your name as you want it to be reported to people you send email too (ie - John Smith). Then hit 'Next' Step 4: In this next box you set your return email up. It is very important here that you enter your JISP mail address or your mail will not be allowed to go through the mail server (ie - john@jisp.net). Hit 'Next' Step 5: Now you set in the mail server. The mail server is a 'POP3'. Then for both the incoming and outgoing servers type 'mail.jisp.net'. Hit 'Next' Step 6: Now set in your user name and password for this email account as you have set up with us. Hit 'Next'. Step 7: OK, that is it. Now just hit 'Finish'.

Area Code Updates On February 4, 2004, the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) issued an Order that adopted an all-services Overlay plan for the 815 area code in northern Illinois. The new 779 area code will serve customers in the same geographic region as the current 815 area code, which includes the Belvidere, Crystal Lake, De Kalb, Dixon, Freeport, Hanover, Joliet, Kankakee, Ottawa, Pontiac, Princeton, Rockford, Sterling and Watseka cities and communities. With the new dialing plan, all calls dialed within the 815 area code will need to be dialed using a 1+10-digit pattern. Key dates are outlined below:
The Permissive Dialing Period for 1+10-digit dialing will begin on August 19, 2006 at 12:01AM. During the Permissive Dialing Period, local calls within the 815 area code may still be dialed using 7 digits but subscribers are encouraged to dial 1+10 digits.
Mandatory Dialing will begin on February 17, 2007. All calls within the 815 area code must be dialed as 1+10-digits. The 815/779 area code Relief Plan will not affect rates or local calling areas. No existing numbers will change; all numbers will retain their current area code.
The effective date for new 779 NPA is March 17, 2007. At this time new telephone lines or services may be assigned using the new NPA, 779. All calls dialed within the new 779 area code will also need to be dialed using a 1+10-digit pattern. Activation of the new 779 area code will not result in any changes in Verizon rates or local calling areas.
The change for JISP customers is that they will need to add the 815 area code into their Dial-Up Properties to be able to connect (instructions below) or call us for additional information at 815-947-2074.
